Firstly I drew around the skirt block front and back. We then measured ourselves from our waist to the floor and then extended the length of our skirt to that length. To add the extra flare to our maxi skirts, we drew 2 vertical lines on the back piece from the bottom of both darts to the hem,
for the front we repeated the process but for one dart, but to gain the toher line, we measured from the dart to the centre front and found the halfway point and drew a vertical line, we then traced the front and back off separately, and slashed up the vertical lines leaving them slightly attached still at the top, the automatically spreads out the bottom of the pattern.
This is the final pattern above with a seam allowance added. The front and back are both cut on the fold. We used a bias grain line as we wanted the skirt to flute at the hem, it also means that the skirt will fit where it touches,
Waistband;
to pattern for the waistband, we measured the waist minus the seam allowance, we added on extra for the overlap of the button hole as well,

Skirt with yoke patterning..
Firstly I drew around the basic skirt block.
Then to add the slight flare onto the front of the skirt, we extended a line from the hip to the hem, we then extended the width of the hem on the side by 2.5cm, we did the exact same to the back skirt as seen int he above picture.
We also extended a linefrom the centre back waist to the hem and extended the hem line towards the centre back by 1cm, we did this for more ease in the skirt, as seen in the above picture.
Yoke;
A yoke is a horizontal line that goes across the top of any garment, in this case it was going across the top of my skirt. We placed ours at the bottom of the longest dart, as seen in the pictures above. I traced off the yoke from my first draft and then closed up the darts,
I then added a 1.5 seam allowance and created my final pattern for the yoke.
Box pleat;
To get the box pleat, we drew a vertical line from the yoke line to the hem, approximately 5cm from the centre front line. We then slashed up the box pleat line and then inserted a piece of paper 10cm in width which gave us half of our box pleat;
Kick pleat;
Waist facings;
A facing is used to neaten up raw edges, we had facings at the top of our skirt, we drew a 5cm horizontal line from the waist on the front and back, we then traced it off to create a final pattern and added a seam aloowance of 1.5cm.

CAD..
We have been creating some garments on cad to get some good practice. So far I have made a tshirt, a pair of jeans, a basic dress and a skirt. Although cad is difficult, I think I have done rather well in creating these garments and the more practice I had, the better I became. I think it will prove a challenge to create my final garment dress idea on cad, but with some basic instructions and remembering what I've been taught on how to use the many buttons and icons, I will hopefully be able to create a design that is identical to my final creation.
Update..
I have finally chosen my final design for my final garment. I am pleased with it and I think it reflects religion and culture well. I have so far patterned and started on creating my toile,which so far has gone quite well, although I no that once i start to cut up my garment and re sew it back togther again to get the required seam appearence I'm looking for, I may start to encounter some difficulty and some issues. Im really looking forward to perfecting my garment and finally getting the toile finished so i can concentrate on creating my final piece to go down the catwalk!

Skirt with yoke patterning..
Here i am going to explain how i created my pattern pieces for my skirt with a yoke.
Firstly, we all traced around the blocks that were provided for us and made sure we all had the correct markings on them, this was our first draft.
Then, to get our adaptions, we had to create a front and a back yoke. We did this by tracing off the yoke line section of the front and the back piece of the skirt on the first draft. I then cut them out and closed the darts and I then had my front and back yokes. We then had to get the waistbands and we did this by tracing off the waistbands on our first drafts and again closing the darts.
For our final patterns, we have to firstly create the pattern for the box pleat. We did this by tracing off the front part of the skirt from our

update..
At this point in my last brief, i have started to research into a few fashion illustrators to get some inspiration for my final designs.
I have looked at Kenneth Block who was one of the foremost fashion illustrators of the 20th century. I researched into some of his work and then recreated some of it and used his techniques with my own designs.
I also researched into Jennifer Lilya and her designs, which are a lot more modern than Blocks designs. I prefered her style of illustration as it was a lot more detailed and neater. I also tried out her way of illustration.
I have now started to draw up my final design for my garement. I think i have quite a strong design that will reflect my subject of culutre and religion very well and I'm looking forward to start creating and patterning for my garment!

Progress with final brief..
So I'm going to update here on how I'm getting on with my final brief. So far i have done a fair amount of research based alone on religion and culture, as i wanted to make sure I had looked properly into my final topic. I have researched about a few different religions and cultures alone, i have looked at different symbols used, architecture, food, clothing and the pros and cons of religion.
I have started to create my colour page as well. I have selected a few images i think are relevant to the side of religion and culture i want to focus on, the darker side where religious cultural people are suffocated and trapped within their own beliefs, so this is the part i want to focus on.
I have also started to expand on my earlier designs and come up with some newer better ones that reflect off all aspects of my research. I am pleased with my ideas for my final garment, although I'm not sure if some of my designs are too complex yet.
